Case Study: Restoring a Late 1800s Wooden Floor in Falmouth Road

Project Overview

A historic wooden floor in a property on Falmouth Road, dating back to the late 1800s, required extensive restoration. Years of wear, heavy burns, and layers of paint – eventually covered by carpet – had masked its original beauty. Under the guidance of Mike, a retired flooring specialist with decades of experience, the floor was meticulously brought back to life.

The Transformation

Sanding Process:

  • Heavy grit (24-40) for deep resurfacing
  • Medium grit (60-80) for smoothing
  • Fine & ultra-fine grit (120-240) for a flawless finish

Coating System:

  • @rustinsltd Medium Oak water-based system
  • Applied in three coats for a durable and rich finish

The Result

The once-damaged floor was beautifully restored, highlighting the natural character of the original wood. The medium oak finish enhanced the warmth of the space while maintaining its historical integrity. This project serves as a tribute to traditional craftsmanship, preserving heritage flooring for generations to come.
